One of Kuala Lumpur's most recognisable landmarks, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, has officially reopened to the public after a year of restoration works
Standing proudly in front of Dataran Merdeka, the historic building has been restored under the Warisan KL urban regeneration programme.
The completion of Block 1 marks the first phase of its larger restoration, focusing on preserving its heritage while enhancing safety, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall announced the building's reopening on Monday, 2 February, highlighting the effort as part of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and a celebration of the city's distinctive identity,
Visitors can now step inside to explore its interior, take photos, and rediscover a piece of the city's past!

Standing proud since 1897, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building once served as the administrative centre during the British colonial era
It was known as the Secretariat Building before it was renamed Sultan Abdul Samad Building in honour of the late Sultan Abdul Samad ibni Almarhum Raja Abdullah, the Sultan of Selangor during its construction.
Over the years, the building remains as striking as ever, blending British colonial influences with Islamic architectural elements, making it one of the most photographed heritage buildings in Kuala Lumpur.

Beyond admiring the architecture, visitors can now enjoy a range of new experiences within the complex
These include exhibitions detailing the building's history, miniature displays and interactive galleries, a one-stop visitor information centre, and craft-making areas, as well as cafés and eateries.
KLCG Confectionery & Bakery and Bungkus Kaw Kaw are already open, with more expected to follow!
