Bookworms, mark your calendars. Floating book fair Doulos Hope is making its way back to Malaysia this December!

From 11 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, the ship will dock at Port Klang Cruise Terminal, inviting Malaysians to hop on board for a one-of-a-kind book-hunting adventure at sea.

Operated by a non-profit organisation GBA Ships, the Doulos Hope sails from port to port, bringing affordable books, cultural experiences, and a whole lot of inspiration to people around the world.

Its name literally means 'servant of hope', and that's exactly what the ship aims to do — spread knowledge, help, and hope through books.

On board are about 120 crew members from more than 35 countries, including Malaysia, India, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Zimbabwe, the Philippines, Mexico, and many more

The international volunteers on board are always eager to chat, so you might even end up swapping stories with someone from the other side of the world while browsing the shelves.

The Doulos Hope carries over 2,000 books from around the world

Based on previous stops (including Malaysia), here's a peek at what you'll find:

  • A massive range of titles: science, medicine, business, languages, sports, cooking, and the arts
  • Children's books, self-help titles, faith/fiction, atlases, and reference books

You can also enjoy popcorn, ice cream, drinks, and more at Hope Café while you browse.

Prices are generally more affordable than standard retail stores, as part of the ship's mission to make knowledge accessible to everyone

This is not the first time Doulos Hope has visited our shores.

In 2023, the ship stopped by Penang. Unfortunately, it had to cancel its planned visit to Port Klang that year due to berth unavailability.

In July earlier this year, the ship docked at Victoria, Labuan. Then, in August, Doulos Hope returned to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, with local reports noting that it was the ship's first visit there after two years.

Right now, the ship is docked in Bangkok, continuing its regional journey before making its way here.

Logos Hope, its sister ship, visited Port Klang in 2011.
