Paws & Pedals is a super cute, pet-friendly cycling experience where your furry bestie gets to ride with you, not just chase behind.
The whole thing started with Coco, a senior dog who was having trouble walking due to joint issues
Walks became difficult, and pet strollers just didn't feel like a real adventure. Her humans wanted something more engaging — something they could enjoy together and go further.
So, they got her a special pet bike they saw at a cycling expo.
One ride later, and 15-year-old Coco was zooming through the streets of Penang, ears in the wind, living her best life.

What was originally meant for elderly pets quickly turned into a hit with younger, energetic ones too — and just like that, Paws & Pedals was born.
So, how does it all work?
On event days, the crew loads up to 15 bikes into a van, sets everything up, and gets each furry passenger fitted with a comfy harness.
Riders then head off on a chill, self-guided ride that lasts about an hour. You're free to explore at your own pace, with a helpful map and route tips provided.
If you're the social type, they also host themed group rides — like the George Town Night Ride — where riders cruise together in small groups.

And yes, they sanitise everything between rides. It's not just adorable — it's also hygienic.
You'll need just two things before booking:
1. Be confident riding a bike (even if it's been a while — muscle memory is real!)
2. Make sure your pet meets the weight limit: up to 10kg for Co-Pilot bikes and up to 20kg for Basket Bikes.
That's it. No licence, no fancy skills — just you, your pet, and some open road.

The whole point of Paws & Pedals is about creating new ways for people to bond with their pets
"We want people to feel that sense of joy, connection, and shared adventure," the founders shared with SAYS. And judging by all the wagging tails and happy faces, it's working.
They've been getting loads of curious looks and early bookings at events, and while cycling with pets might still be new to some, it's catching on fast in Penang.

"Cycling around George Town — especially in the evening — is a truly special experience," they shared.
"As night falls, the UNESCO heritage zone transforms into a vibrant yet relaxed space. The streets come alive with people dining at roadside vendors or enjoying meals in charming old shophouses, yet traffic fades to almost nothing.
"Riding through these quiet, street-light lit lanes in the cool evening air, with fewer cars and crowds, is both peaceful and enchanting. It's the kind of moment that makes you fall in love with the city all over again and this time with your best mate on board to experience it with you!"
They're planning to bring Paws & Pedals to KL, starting with Desa ParkCity, one of the most pet-friendly parks in the city
If that's your turf, you can register your interest now to help them figure out demand and get the bikes rolling sooner.
They're even working on themed events like a Mother's Day ride for pet mums (cue the matching outfits, pls) and other creative ways to turn your regular pet date into something memorable.
