Club Med is opening its first-ever East Malaysian resort, Club Med Borneo, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, with bookings officially opening on 24 March 2026
The beachfront resort is expected to welcome its first guests in November 2026, marking the brand's second property in Malaysia after the long-running Club Med Cherating in Pahang.

The beachfront property will be located in Kuala Penyu, a coastal district about 90 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport
Spanning 17 hectares of beachfront land, the resort is designed to blend into its surroundings, taking architectural inspiration from traditional Rumah Rungus longhouses.

The resort will feature around 400 guest rooms, including 39 Exclusive Collection Suites for those looking for a more private, premium stay
Like most Club Med resorts, the idea here is simple: you can be as active (or as lazy) as you want.

Guests can also enjoy a wide range of facilities and experiences, including:
- A main infinity pool overlooking the sea
- A family-friendly splash park
- Multiple restaurants and bars serving local and international cuisine
- A forest spa with tropical treatment chalets
- A theatre space with evening performances, including circus-style shows
Food-wise, there will be three main spots to check out: The Alam buffet restaurant, The Laut gourmet dining space, and The Pasir bar, where guests can sip tropical cocktails.

If you're travelling with kids, this place is pretty much designed with that in mind
Children aged 4 months to 17 years can join dedicated kids' clubs and activities, while adults can sneak off for sports sessions, spa treatments, or simply lounge by the beach.
The resort will also host cultural workshops, including pottery classes, cooking sessions, and traditional Sabahan dance performances.
So, guests get a small taste of local culture without even leaving the resort.

If you're the adventurous type, the resort will also organise guided trips around Sabah
Some experiences include:
- Visiting Mari-Mari Cultural Village to learn about indigenous cultures
- Snorkelling trips around Pulau Tiga
- Wildlife river cruises to spot hornbills and the famous Proboscis monkey

Beyond luxury and leisure, Club Med Borneo is also being built with sustainability in mind
The resort aims to become one of the first large-scale BREEAM-certified beach resorts in the Asia Pacific, meaning the development was designed with environmental impact in consideration.
Some initiatives include reducing single-use plastics, using energy-efficient systems, and protecting the nearby mangrove ecosystem.
The development is also expected to generate over 350 jobs for local communities in Sabah.
Reservations for Club Med Borneo will open on 24 March 2026, ahead of its official opening in November 2026

As part of the launch promotion, guests booking stays between 16 November 2026 and 3 January 2027 may receive a complimentary upgrade to Deluxe rooms, subject to availability.
If Borneo's beaches, wildlife, and sunsets have always been on your bucket list, this might just be the perfect excuse to start planning a trip.
