Banyan Tree KL's latest afternoon tea offering, Allegra, is a feast for both your eyes and tastebuds
Every three months, the hotel switches up the afternoon tea menu at their Horizon Grill restaurant, so there's always something fresh, new, and exciting for people to check out.
Currently, it's An Allegra Afternoon Tea, which will run until the end of October. True to its name, the set consists of lovely little elegant bites, both sweet and savoury, along with a selection of tea and coffee.
When the set arrived at the table, the first thing that struck us was how pretty it looked, like something straight out of a fairytale

Every item was giving garden vibes in the best way, complete with flower and butterfly motifs that made them almost too pretty to eat.
Here's everything that comes with the set:
- Welcome drink: Sparkling peach with wild berry and rosemary
- Fiori d'Amore: Tuna tataki, red fruit, and gold leaf
- Spettacolore: Taco, mushroom, parmesan, and truffle
- Rock 'n' Rome: Sablé, ricotta mousse, and lemon
- Fantasia Veneta: Choux, peach jelly, and crème pâtissière
- Chill & Sole: Almond sablé, lemon crémeux, and vanilla
- Riva Solare: Almond sablé, coffee mousse, and mandarin
- Insieme: Chocolate canale, raspberry gel, and Valrhona 55%
- Ma'Magnifica: Chocolate sablé and rose
- Mini scones with clotted cream and housemade berry jam
Plus, you also get your choice of tea or coffee — I opted for chamomile tea while my colleague, Laila, went for a hot latte.
First up, the three savoury bites were absolutely delicious and we definitely gobbled them up way too fast

Think of Spettacolore as a cross between mushroom soup and a taco. It was light yet bursting with earthy flavours, complemented by a great crunch from the crispy shell.
Meanwhile, Fiori d'Amore was like elevated sashimi, where the fresh fish really stood out.
As for Rock 'n' Rome, we initially thought it was one of the sweet treats because of the lemon listed on the menu, but were pleasantly surprised that it ended up being savoury. It was basically like eating a giant ball of cheese with crackers, so no complaints here.
The sweet bites get the ultimate Asian compliment of "not too sweet"

With myself being a peach lover and Laila being obsessed with anything lemon, Fantasia Veneta and Chill & Sole were right up our alley, both delightfully light and fruity. We could have eaten 10 of these.
Though Riva Solare is supposed to have mandarin, we couldn't really taste much of it due to the overpowering coffee flavour, but it was still an enjoyable bite, especially for coffee fans.
With its delicate pink butterflies and flowers perched on the biscuits, Ma'Magnifica was hands down the prettiest item of the set. Despite not really being able to taste the rose flavour, the chocolate biscuits themselves were great, making for the perfect pair with tea. Give me a jar of them and I'd be munching forever.
Insieme was definitely the standout. The tart raspberry gel beautifully complemented the dark chocolate canale, which isn't the usual custard cake, but pure chocolate shaped like a canale.

And of course, no afternoon tea is complete without scones, and these ones are A. MA. ZING. We were so full by this point but couldn't resist scarfing down the soft scones, and even scraped the plates of clotted cream and berry jam clean!
Overall, An Allegra Afternoon Tea is worth a try for a delightful afternoon out with good friends or family
