adidas Malaysia is putting a fresh spin on Peranakan heritage with its new collection, turning traditional motifs and craftsmanship into easy-to-wear street style pieces

Inspired by Peranakan culture, known for its intricate beadwork, ceramic tile patterns, embroidery, and symbolic motifs, the collection reimagines traditional elements in a way that feels modern and wearable.
The Handball Spezial takes the spotlight in the footwear lineup
Originally a 1970s terrace classic, it returns with subtle Peranakan-inspired updates, including retro jersey-style leather stripes and small design touches that quietly nod to traditional craftsmanship without overpowering the silhouette.

Meanwhile, the cotton graphic tees keep things clean up front with a simple Trefoil, while the back features bold Peranakan postage stamp-style artwork
The prints highlight familiar cultural references like kebaya silhouettes, manek shoes, tiffin carriers, and porcelain-inspired motifs, all framed under adidas' 'The Brand with the Three Stripes' identity.

There's also a canvas tote bag designed for everyday use, with dual-sided graphics, a minimal Trefoil on one side, and a detailed Peranakan-inspired cabinet illustration on the other

Smaller accessories like Made For You pins and charms add a playful touch, letting people customise their pieces with a bit more personality.
Overall, the collection sits nicely between old and new, taking traditional Peranakan design language and filtering it through a contemporary streetwear lens.

The Peranakan Collection is available at selected adidas stores and online.
