An Indonesian man recently went viral on TikTok after revealing how he manages to live in Malaysia on just RM5 a day

Working part-time in Kuala Lumpur, Hakim explained that his earnings are sent back to his family in Indonesia after covering his expenses. So, he needed to carefully manage his finances.

Like many immigrants trying to make a living, Hakim learned that getting by in Malaysia takes discipline.

Hakim decided to cook at home every day instead of spending money on meals outside

In the TikTok video, Hakim showed that he bought a handful of water spinach, a block of tofu, some onions, and a couple of chillies.

He then chopped the ingredients and cooked stirred-fried kangkung and soy sauce tofu. The dishes were paired with rice.

Some users pointed out that while the meal is simple and cheap, it still has enough nutrients to keep a person healthy, which is better than eating fast food.

He often shares videos of simple recipes and snippets of his daily life in Malaysia — attending Al-Qur'an classes, tidying his room, and winding down after work.
