Malaysian netizens are defending a kopitiam after a photo of its "No MIXUE food or drinks allowed" notice went viral

The photo was initially believed to have been posted on Reddit on 13 May, before making its way to the popular meme page, Meanwhile in Malaysia.

"Why MIXUE particularly lol?" read the Reddit post, questioning why the establishment had singled out the Chinese beverage chain.

A quick search on Google Maps shows that the kopitiam is located in Puchong, Selangor, with a MIXUE outlet is just a stone's throw away.

Netizens are largely supportive of the kopitiam's decision to put up the notice.

However, since it involves MIXUE, a beloved brand known for its affordable prices and catchy promotional jingles, many of the comments have taken on a cheeky tone.

"That feels personal, maybe they don't like the Wo Ai Ni song," a person said in jest, referring to one of MIXUE's jingles.

"No MIXUE, other brands okay. The boss here is not on good terms with MIXUE's boss," another netizen quipped, while someone else added, "Someone must specifically hate MIXUE."

Even TGV Cinemas joined in on the fun, commenting, "Cause melon here, melon there ma," once again referencing a MIXUE jingle.

Some comments offered more rational explanations

One Reddit user criticised customers who bring outside food and drinks into a shop without ordering anything, calling the behaviour "shameless".

Another netizen noted that school students often visit the kopitiam and tend to leave their MIXUE cups behind.
