At the 29th SEA Games, Amsyar, who had never won an individual gold at the previous SEA Games, stunned compatriot Ooi Tze Liang to win the 1m springboard individual gold. Then he bettered his performance by winning a second gold by winning the men's 3m synchronised springboard with Chew Yiwei.

The queen of the ice was so overwhelmed with emotions after winning a gold for Malaysia that she was seen crying on the podium during the prize giving ceremony as she watched the Malaysian flag being raised and 'Negaraku' played in the background.
