While most people might spend RM20 on a meal, one Malaysian man found a different use for his orange banknotes — he saves every RM20 he receives in a mooncake box.

And now, that simple habit has turned into a stash of over RM10,000!

The man, a massage therapist based in Petaling Jaya, recently shared his story on Facebook, where it quickly went viral.

He posted a photo of the mooncake tin packed to the brim with RM20 notes — a visual representation of disciplined saving.

"Over the years, bit by bit, my tin has filled up. It's more than just money, it's a ritual of life. Every time I open the tin, I can't help feel a quiet sense of satisfaction," he wrote.

The post resonated with many Malaysians, with netizens flooding the comments section with praise for his dedication and even sharing their own similar saving methods

"That's so satisfying," one user commented.

"Wow, there are so many people who are good at saving and worth learning from," commended another.

One user even showed their savings, mostly accumulated before the pandemic, before digital payments and e-wallets took over.

In an interview with SAYS, the man revealed the heartwarming reason behind his savings.

He isn't just saving for himself — he's doing it so he can take his elderly mother on a well-deserved trip.

"I saved this money to reward both myself and my mum with travel," he shared, adding that it's his way of giving back to her.

He added that he has been saving for about three to four years and has already collected over RM10,000 in RM20 notes alone

On top of that, he's also been setting aside RM5 notes, which have totalled another RM2,000.

Way to go!
