An American tourist recently stirred debate by saying that Malaysian cuisine is better than Singaporean fare
In a post on the Malaysia Travel Tips Facebook group on 25 June, Brent Farris argued that Malaysia offers the same culinary variety as Singapore, but at a fraction of the price — and, in his opinion, tastes even better.
He kicked off his bold take with a disclaimer: "If it offends you, I apologise in advance," before adding, "OK, I'm not sorry."

Farris then shifted his focus to durians, playfully taking jabs at both Singapore and Thailand
He claimed that Malaysia is the "originator" of the fruit and produces the finest ones in the world.
He pointed out that Singapore does not cultivate durians, highlighting the irony of the fruit being considered a national icon in a country that does not produce it.
With a playful dig at another durian-loving nation, he quipped, "Sorry, Thailand."
He concluded with a sense of relief, stating, "There, I said it. That feels like a weight has been lifted. I've been wanting to say this for years."
The comments on his post were hilarious, to say the least

The American is a self-proclaimed durian connoisseur
On Facebook, Farris enjoys sharing his experiences eating a wide variety of durians, especially whenever he visits Malaysia.

On Monday, 30 June, he shared a post about enjoying red-fleshed durians near the summit of Mount Kinabalu in Sabah. He also recounted indulging extensively in durians in Mantin, a town in Negeri Sembilan.
Currently back in the US, Farris expressed his desire to return to Malaysia later this year.
