For Taylor's University student Scarlett Lau, acting began as a childhood passion, one that's now turned into a thriving career
While still pursuing her Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours) at Taylor's University, Scarlett landed a role in Astro's romance series Step Dave, playing Ting Ting, a rebellious 17-year-old navigating life with a potential new stepdad.

"The techniques that I applied on set, such as stage focus and the depth of my character analysis, were skills I primarily developed during my training at Taylor's University," Scarlett said.
The degree offers three specialisations in Performance (Theatre), Music (Vocal Studies), and Dance (Traditional and Contemporary), combining academic study with real-world industry experience. Scarlett chose the Performance track, which she says helped her develop discipline, creativity, and authenticity as an actor.

Students are mentored by long-standing industry professionals such as Joe Hasham and Professor Dato' Dr Faridah Merican from The Actors Studio, whose guidance continues to shape the programme's strong foundation in performance and production.
They also benefit from the insights of newly appointed Adjunct Professors and industry leaders such as Siti Saleha binti Mohd Baharum, Datin Hajah Marlia binti Musa, Dato' Dr Haji Mohamad Nasir bin Mohamed Sam, Maria Sascha Khan, and Professor Dr Joseph Gonzales, who bring fresh perspectives and contemporary industry experience to the classroom.
"The programme's partnerships with The Actors Studio, ASK Dance Company, and Young Choral Academy provide students invaluable industry exposure," explained Raziman bin Sarbini, Programme Director for the Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours).
"They also gain direct access to workshops and masterclasses bridging academic learning with professional practice," he added.
