Starbucks Malaysia has unveiled a new initiative to support emerging local creatives

In conjunction with World Creativity and Innovation Day, Starbucks Malaysia announced the Kopi Creator Kolektif (KCK) Class of 2026, featuring 10 up-and-coming local artists — five musicians and five filmmakers — selected through an open call earlier this year.
The programme is designed as a creator development platform, giving participants access to mentorship, masterclasses, and industry exposure before culminating in a live showcase on 16 May at Starbucks Reserve IOI Mall Damansara.
At the event, music finalists will perform original songs, while film finalists will premiere teaser cuts of their concepts. One winner from each category will walk away with prizes worth RM10,000, including a four-track EP recording deal for the music winner and a fully produced short film for the film winner.
The initiative builds on Starbucks' long-standing "Third Place" philosophy

According to a 2024 local study involving 230 university students, cafés are often seen as a "second home", valued not just for food and drinks, but also as places to socialise, collaborate, and get work done.
Starbucks Malaysia said this reflects how its coffeehouses can double as platforms for creative expression.
"At Starbucks, we see our coffeehouses as the 'Third Place,' a welcoming space where Malaysians can connect, exchange ideas and feel part of something larger than themselves," said Zakiah Hanim Md Zaki, Director of Marketing & Loyalty, Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company Sdn Bhd.
"It's inspiring to see Malaysia's creative talents come together through Kopi Creator Kolektif. We're proud to support a campaign rooted in originality and connection by opening our coffeehouses for Malaysian stories to be discovered, supported, and celebrated."
Selected finalists will go through a structured development journey leading up to the showcase

For the music cohort, Breaking Music will lead sessions focused on personal branding and songwriting, alongside access to studio time and professional equipment.
Meanwhile, the film cohort will be guided by Weekend Boys Studio and Multimedia University's Faculty of Cinematic Arts, with mentorship centred on storytelling and production skills.
The KCK Showcase is open to the public, offering Malaysians a chance to discover new local talent and support the next generation of creatives
