Police have confirmed the detention of a woman who was allegedly living at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 for a year, following viral videos showing her causing a disturbance

According to Harian Metro, KLIA deputy district police chief Superintendent Albany Hamzah said the woman was detained after a commotion occurred at the terminal last Thursday, 18 December.

"The disturbance involved the woman and several other individuals. Officers on duty went to the location for further action before bringing her to the police station," he said.

Albany said checks found that the woman is a local citizen, believed to be in her 40s, and holds a mental health card

Police have since handed her over to Kajang Hospital for further examination. He did not confirm how long the individual had been staying at KLIA.

"We do not have further information regarding the matter. Action was taken following the disturbance, and so far, police have not opened an investigation paper. The woman has been handed over to the hospital for further action," he said.

Earlier, a video reportedly showed the woman — clad in a bright blue top and black leggings — scolding individuals after children were seen playing and making noise around her

Another clip showed the woman sitting in the airport terminal surrounded by several pieces of luggage and airport trolleys, claiming that she had been using the terminal as her residence for the past year, relying on airport facilities such as free water, WiFi, and air-conditioning.

The videos sparked online debate, with users questioning how long the woman had been staying at the airport and whether authorities were aware of the situation.

In response, KLIA said authorities have been informed of the matter and that the police are taking the necessary action, urging the public not to speculate.
