A viral video showing a fisherman filling RON95 into a plastic container at a petrol station in Bayan Baru, Penang, has prompted authorities to clarify that no offence was committed
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) confirmed that the man involved holds a valid permit to purchase fuel under existing regulations and within a stipulated quota, reported the New Straits Times.
Penang KPDN director S Jegan said enforcement officers were dispatched to the Jalan Tengah station after public complaints and conducted a thorough investigation.
"The man seen in the video is a fisherman with a valid permit to purchase fuel in accordance with existing laws, and subject to a stipulated quota," Jegan said.
"His fuel purchase complied with regulations and did not involve any wrongdoing."

RON95 purchases exceeding 20 litres in containers require a special controlled goods permit issued by the ministry
Such permits are granted for specific purposes, including agricultural and fisheries operations, and are subject to strict conditions.
Jegan emphasised that KPDN conducts continuous monitoring at petrol stations to ensure compliance with regulations. Selling fuel into containers exceeding 20 litres without a valid permit remains an offence under the Control of Supplies Act and may result in stern action.
The video of the fisherman circulated widely on social media yesterday, 24 March
It shows the fisherman placing a plastic container in his car boot while filling it with RON95.
Some netizens initially called for action.
