A Malaysian has launched what he calls the country's first 'Youth Retirement Home' in Gopeng, Perak, offering young adults a month-long escape from city life for just RM2,000

In a series of Instagram Reels, the 25-year-old founder introduces the unconventional retreat, candidly sharing that he's currently unemployed and started the venture with help from his parents.

Located on an eight-acre plot of land, the concept has sparked online discussion, particularly among young Malaysians navigating work burnout and mounting life pressures.

According to the founder, the youth retirement home is designed as a space for guests to do nothing

For RM2,000 a month, residents receive accommodation, three meals a day, and access to a peaceful, nature-filled environment.

There are no structured activities, schedules, or productivity goals. Instead, guests are invited to slow down and rest, embracing the Chinese social trend known as "躺平" (tang ping).

The term translates to "lying flat", a movement where young people consciously reject societal and career pressures in favour of a slower, less materialistic way of life.

The founder himself personally references the philosophy and invites other young Malaysians to rest and recharge at the retreat

He said the idea was inspired by his family's existing business as his parents run a traditional nursing home in Ipoh.

This led him to repurpose their land in Gopeng to experiment with a care-focused concept reimagined for younger adults dealing with stress and burnout.

"No KPIs, no 9-to-5. You can sleep until you wake up naturally, eat home-cooked food, plant vegetables if you want, watch ducks walk around, or just daydream for the whole afternoon," he said.

He hopes giving guests the space to rest will help them feel re-energised to continue with their lives.
