Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the government is adding 1,500 more spots for Bachelor's degree programmes at five research universities across Malaysia

During the tabling of Belanjawan 2026 today, 10 October, Anwar, who is also the current Finance Minister, said the extra placements will cover 10 key fields of study, including law, accounting, economics, banking, Islamic finance, artificial intelligence (AI), and languages, among others.

He added that the move aims to give more high-achieving students — especially STPM graduates — a fair shot at pursuing their studies at Malaysia's top public universities

This expansion is part of the government's ongoing efforts to make quality higher education more accessible and to ensure that talented local students aren't left behind.
