A Malaysian woman's dream of working overseas quickly turned into a nightmare after she was tricked into joining a scam syndicate in Cambodia
According to Heidoh, the woman, who worked as an administrator at a local logistics company, had accepted what she believed was an internal job transfer to China — an offer made by her boss, who is a Chinese national.
Her younger sister, Wang, 30, shared during a press conference organised by the Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) that the company had claimed it was relocating operations to China due to financial issues.
"My sister agreed and set off on 1 September. The company later told her she needed to transit in Cambodia. She didn't suspect anything at the time," said Wang.

However, 10 days later, the family received a distressing call.
Her sister revealed that she had been trafficked and forced to work for a scam syndicate inside a guarded compound.
"She said she had been sold to a scam compound in Cambodia and was being tortured with electric shock batons," her sister revealed, adding that the victim was forced to carry out online scams daily and feared for her life.
Wang added that the family knew very little about her sister's employer and could not confirm if others had fallen victim to the same scam.
The case has since been reported to the authorities, with MHO assisting the family in efforts to rescue the victim.
