Coastal residents in Melaka have been advised to prepare for the possibility of a king tide phenomenon, expected to occur along the state's shoreline from today until 9 December
According to Bernama, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof said all relevant agencies have been mobilised and placed on standby to respond to any incidents related to the natural event.
"To all residents along the coastline, I hope you can remain patient (should any disaster occur) as these weather and natural changes are beyond our control," he said.
The high-risk areas expected to be affected include:

King tides are exceptionally high tides caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun
According to the US National Ocean Service, these higher-than-normal tides typically occur during a new or full moon, or when the moon reaches its perigee — the closest point in its orbit around Earth.
King tides can bring unusually high water levels and may lead to localised tidal flooding, particularly in low-lying coastal areas.
