Man Stabbed To Death After Fight Over Mobile Phone In Melaka

The suspect allegedly broke into a civilian's car to hide before being apprehended.

A 25-year-old man was killed after an argument with an acquaintance over a mobile phone in Kampung Sungai Udang, Melaka on Wednesday, 11 March

According to the New Straits Times, Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the victim was found lying on the ground outside his home with three stab wounds to the chest in the 8.30pm incident.

"Preliminary investigations found that the suspect had given a mobile phone to the victim last week before returning to retrieve his belongings. However, the meeting escalated into a quarrel, and the victim was attacked with a machete," said Patit.

The victim's brother reportedly heard the commotion and chased the 44-year-old suspect about 300m to a row of shop houses.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder

The police chief said the victim's body has been sent to Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem, adding that both parties had previous criminal and drug-related records.
