The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a significant weather alert for continuous heavy rain from 14 to 18 December

In a statement released today, 12 December, METMalaysia said analysis of weather forecast models indicates that a monsoon surge is expected to occur.

"This condition may bring continuous heavy rain to the eastern regions of Peninsular Malaysia and western Sarawak, as well as strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea during this period," it said.

As a result, continuous rain alerts have been issued from 13 to 16 December for Sarawak, and from 14 to 16 December for Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Johor.

Strong wind and rough sea warnings will remain in effect for waters off Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and eastern Johor until 18 December.
