Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Saturday, 21 March
The date was officially announced by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, during a televised broadcast this evening, 19 March.
"In fulfilment of the command of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, with the consent of the Malay Rulers, I hereby declare that the date of Hari Raya Puasa for all states in Malaysia is Saturday, 21 March 2026," he said.
The announcement followed the outcome of new moon sightings conducted at 29 locations nationwide earlier tonight
The process involved religious officials from state mufti departments, alongside astronomy experts, religious scholars, and technical representatives from the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia.
These observations form part of Malaysia's established method of determining the start of Syawal, combining both physical moon sighting and scientific calculations.
With the Raya date now confirmed, tomorrow, March 20, will be a public holiday as announced earlier by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
Malaysians will enjoy a four-day festive break, combining the Aidilfitri public holidays with the extra day off.
Anwar said the early announcement was intended to help the public plan their balik kampung trips and celebrations.
