Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the government is introducing a new individual income tax relief to boost domestic tourism

During the tabling of Belanjawan 2026 today, Anwar, who is also finance minister, proposed an income tax relief of up to RM1,000 for Malaysians who spend on entrance fees to local tourist attractions and cultural programmes.

"To encourage Malaysians to travel domestically in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the government is introducing a special individual income tax relief of up to RM1,000 for expenses related to entrance fees to local tourist attractions and cultural programmes," he said.

New geo-tourism products are also set to be developed on the island, including the Kilim Geoforest Park, the Gua Selat Panchor adventure trail, and a geotrail hiking route within the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark.
