Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar informed the Dewan Rakyat today, 4 November, that the BUDI95 fuel subsidy programme has shown encouraging success one month after its inception
According to the New Straits Times, he confirmed that the 300-litre monthly fuel quota is proving adequate, as the average consumption among users stands at only 98 litres, or 33% of the eligible amount.
Anwar noted that only a tiny fraction — 0.7% of users — exceeded the 300-litre monthly quota
This data is primarily from those who commute long distances. He added that as of last month, 13.1 million people had utilised the programme, spending RM2.6 billion worth of subsidised BUDI95 fuel. The government's total fuel subsidy provided to the people currently stands at RM800 million.
The prime minister also highlighted the smooth implementation of the RON95 subsidy
He also noted the increase in digital participation, with the public being encouraged and trained to use applications like Setel and Touch 'n Go eWallet.
He added that the BUDI95 programme has also expanded its facilities to include fishermen who do not hold valid driving licences, thanks to cooperation with the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority and the governments of Sabah and Sarawak.
"As of 31 October, approval has been given to registered boat owners without a driving licence, numbering about 24,000," he said.
Furthermore, he announced that the monthly fuel quota for e-hailing drivers has been increased from 300 litres to 600 litres, affecting 58,000 drivers.
