The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will begin mandatory contributions for foreign workers with October 2025 wages, with both employers and employees required to contribute 2% each
The new rule applies to all foreign employees working in Malaysia who hold valid passports and work passes issued by the Immigration Department, excluding domestic servants such as maids, cooks, drivers, and similar roles as defined under the Workmen's Compensation Act 1952.
As part of the rollout, EPF will automatically register eligible foreign workers who hold a Visitor's Pass (Temporary Employment) or an Employment Pass, removing the need for them to visit EPF offices in person.
Employers can verify registrations through i-Akaun (Employer).
Companies that have not yet registered with EPF must do so online or at any EPF office.
EPF chief executive officer Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn said the expansion "represents a significant step for the EPF in enhancing the national social protection agenda", by closing coverage gaps and supporting fairer labour practices.
Here are the key details for employers
Contribution rates for both the employer and employee are set at 2%.
The payment deadline for contributions on a given month's wages is on or before the 15th of the following month.
For example, the contribution for the October 2025 salary falls in November 2025, so the payment must be made by 15 November 2025.
Contributions must be made in ringgit only, without cents.
EPF has also partnered with the Immigration Department to integrate data systems and securely share information on valid work pass holders, ensuring smooth implementation of the new rule.
