#Belanjawan2026: Public Transport Services To Be Upgraded Nationwide

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that public transport services across the country will receive substantial allocations for upgrades and expansions
Anwar said this during the tabling of Belanjawan 2026 today, 10 October.
Bus services will be provided with about RM200 million in allocations, including the addition of new routes and buses in Johor Bahru to accommodate the needs of the RTS (Rapid Transit System).
The MADANI government will also continue to provide a Rural Air Services (RAS) subsidy of RM209 million for the benefit of rural and inland residents of Sabah and Sarawak.
Free MyRailLife passes for KTM Komuter and Shuttle DMU train services will also be provided to the OKU community, school students, and all children under 6 years old.
The ETS (Electric Train Service), which had begun services in Kluang Station in August this year, is also expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The train is expected to terminate at Johor Bahru Sentral.

The LRT3 line, which will connect Bandar Utama, Damansara to Johan Setia, Klang, is also expected to be operational by the end of 2025
Once operational, it will be able to transport more than 6,200 passengers per hour in each direction.
Phase 1 of the ECRL (East Coast Rail Line) from Kota Bharu to Gombak is also expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Once operational, it is projected to reduce the travel time from Kelantan to the Klang Valley to four hours.
Phase 2 of the Lembang Klang Electric Double Track upgrade is also expected to be fully completed by 2029. This will connect the Bandar Tasik Selatan station to Seremban, and Simpang Pelabuhan Klang to Port Klang. The construction cost will be RM4.1 billion.

The Kelana Jaya LRT line will also be upgraded through the addition of 26 new train units, at a cost of RM1 billion by Prasarana
The Mutiara Line LRT, currently under development, has also begun implementation. It is expected to benefit 1.8 million residents, as well as 3.5 million visitors to Penang.
310 buses will also be received by February 2026, and 300 vans for the Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) programme are also expected be fully operational by the end of 2025.
And as part of the shift to low-carbon green energy transportation, 1,450 electric buses and 300 electric vans will also be acquired in phases until 2030.
