Young Malaysians looking to grow their agro-based business can now apply for grants of up to RM30,000 under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security's (KPKM) revamped Young Agropreneur Grant programme

Rebranded as the NextGen Agropreneur Grant, the initiative aims to attract more youth participation in the national agro-food sector by helping to cover start-up and project costs.

The grant does not need to be repaid and was previously capped at RM20,000.

In a Facebook post, the ministry described the programme as a "golden opportunity" for Malaysians aged 18 to 43 who are newly-involved in crops, livestock, fisheries, or agro-based industries.

There are two types of financial assistance available:

– The Start-Up Grant offers up to RM30,000 to individuals who are just beginning their agro projects
– The Scale-Up Grant provides up to RM50,000 for existing agropreneurs looking to expand into crops, livestock, or fisheries sectors

Depending on the project, recipients may also receive other assistance such as agricultural tools and equipment, including seeds, fertigation systems, livestock feed, cages, ponds, tanks, and other related materials.

Applications are now open

Announcing the revamped programme, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu highlighted that the application process has even been simplified to encourage more young people to apply.

Applicants now only need to complete three steps:
1. Register for an account on the eGAM (Geran Agropreneur Muda) portal
2. Submit an application form
3. Wait for evaluation by the relevant supervising department

Mohamad Sabu also said applications are now open throughout the year, allowing youths to prepare and apply at their own pace.
