A troubling case of school bullying has emerged in Kuching, Sarawak, where a female student was allegedly pelted with stones and violently threatened by two male classmates

According to China Press, Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief Milton Foo said he received a report about the case from the victim's parents, who claimed their daughter was verbally and physically abused by two boys in her class.

The ordeal has reportedly taken a serious toll on the victim's mental wellbeing.

Foo said the incident occurred at a national secondary school in Kuching on Tuesday, 21 October.

One of the boys allegedly threw stones at the girl's back and head, while the other used violent jokes to intimidate her

Foo added that the boys had referenced recent school-related rape and murder cases, threatening to "stab her 300 times after sexually assaulting her".

The threats left the girl terrified, and she immediately reported the incident to her parents and the school.

She was trembling and visibly shaken when she returned home after the incident, prompting her parents to lodge a police report.

According to Foo, police have intervened, and the school has taken disciplinary action

However, after the case was reported by local Chinese-language outlets China Press and Sin Chew Daily, many social media users have voiced concern about whether the response was adequate.

Foo said the school held a meeting with the parents of all the students involved yesterday, 22 October, while police personnel were also sent to the school to assess the situation.

The school decided to suspend the two boys for three days and transfer one of them out of the class, while police issued verbal warnings and instructed them to apologise to the victim in person.

As for the victim, the school granted her a day's leave, but her parents, worried about her psychological state, extended her break until 30 October and arranged counselling support.

Foo said the case highlights how students today are exposed to too much information online and can be easily influenced by violent or pornographic material, blurring boundaries between the virtual world and reality

He stressed that without proper guidance from parents and teachers, children may imitate such behaviour as jokes or provocations, without realising the real-life consequences.

Foo urged parents to pay closer attention to their children's daily lives and monitor their social behaviour to prevent school tragedies caused by negligence.

"Parents should spend at least a few minutes each day understanding their children's situation and friendships at school. Don't wait until problems become serious before you regret it," he advised.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
