Sunway Group has just dropped its catchy new anthem, We Are Sunway. Have you watched it?
The song reflects the group's 51-year journey, from its humble beginnings to the people who built it, and the vision driving its next chapter.
It captures the spirit of a company that grew from a tin mine into one of Malaysia's most recognisable and impactful brands.
Here are three moments you may (or may not) have caught in the video:
1. Sunway used to be Sungei Way
Sunway's story began in 1974, when founder Tan Sri Sir Dr. Jeffrey Cheah started a small tin mining company known as Sungei Way.
Over the decades, the group transformed once a tin-mining wasteland in Bandar Sunway into a thriving, sustainable township, today home to world-class education institutions, a medical centre, a mall, a theme park, and a community of over 200,000 people.
2. Sunway is more than just Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Pyramid
Most Malaysians know Sunway for its iconic theme park and mall, but the group's reach goes far beyond entertainment and retail.
It spans education, healthcare, sustainable urban development, research collaborations with global universities, tech innovation through incubators, and hospitality and property projects nationwide.
For instance, did you know through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway partnered with University of Cambridge to establish the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre at Cambridge Biomedical Campus, naming the facility in honour of Tan Sri Sir Dr. Jeffrey Cheah.
And if you're staying in the Klang Valley, you've probably heard of one of the newest, most happening spots to visit, Sunway Square Mall in Sunway City KL. With office towers, a performing arts centre, and an exciting mall, this green development has been a hotspot among locals and visitors in recent weeks.
3. Sunway is all about its people
Sunway credits its success to the people behind the brand, from long-serving employees to partners and community members.
Through #SunwayforGood, the group actively supports social impact projects, including youth education programmes, community development, environmental initiatives, and disaster relief efforts, showing that giving back is as central to the group as business growth.
