This year, OCBC has come up with its Raya film, inspired by a true story

Watch the full video here:

Titled Di Samping Ayah, the short film makes a play on words with samping (a traditional piece of garment) to demonstrate Malay culture alongside the idea of a father and son living life side-by-side, with values passed down from generation to generation.

The film invites viewers to reflect on their past and relationship with their parents, with questions like, "How did your parents show you love in ways you didn't realise until later in life?"

In the film, Amin wrestles with his father's stern nature, often feeling like he can never measure up

While others inherit land, savings, or wealth, Amin feels he has inherited something far greater: A strict hand, constant reminders, and a voice that rarely praises.

That's something that many who grew up in Malaysian households can relate to.

Yet, when Amin finally realises the quiet love behind his father's actions, that's when the tears start rolling

One key moment is when the father helps Amin with his samping, leading Amin to retort, "You're deciding how I wear it now too?"

But the father's reply hits deep.

"Because this is the only time I can hug my son," the father says, before revealing that the samping was passed down from Amin's late grandfather to Amin's father, and now to Amin.

As it turns out, this tearjerking scene was based on a true story, OCBC reveals, giving it deeper significance.

In the comments section, many netizens shared how the film struck a personal chord

At the heart of it, the film reminds viewers that true inheritance goes beyond financial wealth

"It lives in the values, lessons, and quiet gestures that shape who we become. As a bank steeped in heritage, with roots in Malaysia spanning more than 100 years, we are ourselves a product of the legacy passed down through generations — anchored in values that continue to guide us," said Ann Lim, Head of Brand & Communications of OCBC Malaysia.

Beyond its comprehensive suite of banking and wealth solutions, OCBC truly believes in helping families support and protect what truly matters across generations.

OCBC wishes all Malaysians Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin!
