On 5 April, a stray dog in Kuala Lumpur was seriously injured in a cruel hit-and-run

The impact left him paralysed from the waist down, with little chance of survival.

But instead of being forgotten, this little dog, later named Lucky, was about to begin the biggest fight of his life.

For most, that might have been the end of the story. But Shan, the founder of Woof My Roof, believed otherwise.

She had been feeding him long before the accident happened. When he was struck, she knew she couldn't just look away.

"Choosing this path isn't easy — it's messy, emotional, and tough. But every saved life makes it all worth it," Shan wrote when she shared Lucky's story online.

Lucky's injuries left him bedridden, suffering from painful pressure sores and urine burns. Every day was a struggle filled with pain, treatment, and uncertainty.

Shan decided to call him Lucky, not because his life was easy, but because he was lucky to have survived.

To help cover the cost of Lucky's treatment, Shan launched a small fundraiser selling T-shirts

Proceeds from every shirt sold went towards Lucky's medical bills, rehab, and daily care. Slowly but surely, people rallied behind the cause.

Malaysians responded. Every shirt sold meant another step forward for Lucky.

Over the months, Lucky went through:

  • Six different vets
  • One MRI scan and one CT scan
  • Five acupuncture sessions
  • 20 rehab sessions
  • Two foster homes

With patience and dedication, Shan has been gently helping Lucky get back on his paws

Through it all, she's never stopped believing in him.

"Slowly but surely, he did not give up. We did not give up. Every life deserves a second chance," she shared.

138 days later, Lucky is still here. And he's still fighting.

It has been months since the accident. Lucky has grown stronger, brighter, and more resilient than anyone imagined.

Yet, despite the journey, he still hasn't received a single adoption inquiry.

"He was just a stray dog, one of millions across Malaysia. But that doesn't mean his life isn't worth living. Every life is worth saving — and even small acts of kindness can change a world," she shared.

For now, Lucky is still waiting for his forever home. But Shan remains hopeful.

"I know I'll find him a home, because good things take time."
