After two and a half magical, messy, joy-filled years, LaGula by The Hungry Tapir will be shutting its doors on 23 November

The restaurant recently made the announcement in an Instagram post, saying, "From the very first latte poured to the last cookie crumb on your plate, LaGula has been our little love letter to Kuala Lumpur's vegan community — a space where we experimented, learned, laughed, burnt a few things (oops), and poured our hearts into creating something a little different, a little softer, a little 'LaGula'."

The restaurant, which opened in 2023, also thanked "everyone who has wandered in for a treat, a chat, a quiet moment, or a cosy corner to hide in".

"You've made this space more magical than we ever imagined."

But don't worry. This isn't goodbye forever.

"We're taking a break to rest, reset, and dream up what LaGula 2.0 could become," the restobar added.

Located on the ground floor of Four Points by Sheraton in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur, LaGula by The Hungry Tapir is a two-level bakery-meets-brunch spot run by the same family behind The Hungry Tapir, another vegan and vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown.

It first gained attention for its pastel-pink aesthetic, featuring terrazzo counters, pink walls, and even pink air-conditioning ducts, all balanced with natural wood, rattan lights, and plenty of greenery.

And while the full café will close, they're keeping a presence alive with a mini LaGula corner at the new Hungry Tapir in Bangsar, where some of their most-loved items will still be available

If you've been meaning to visit, swing by before 23 November to soak in the pink, snap some photos, and treat yourself to your favourite croissant or mocktail.
