Rembayung, the first restaurant venture by popular social media influencer Khairulaming, recorded an overwhelming response after securing 3,000 customer bookings during its first reservation slot on Monday night

The entrepreneur, whose full name is Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, said the surge in demand caused the restaurant's website to crash, despite his team's prior preparations.

"We've completed the first round of bookings for Rembayung. I apologise that the website crashed earlier. There were a lot of angry comments, and honestly, I was speechless," he said in a Threads post past midnight, 5 January.

According to Khairul, reservations were successfully made for dining slots starting Wednesday, 7 January, and for several days after.

"We made preparations, but unfortunately, the traffic was too high. About 3,000 customers managed to secure bookings starting the day after tomorrow and over the next few days," he said.

Khairul also apologised to customers frustrated by the technical issues, admitting that the booking process took a toll on him and his team

"I didn't know how to respond… I'm sorry because I didn't sleep at all. Earlier today, I only managed to get two hours of sleep," he shared.

"To those who are angry at me and my team, I sincerely apologise once again. Please give us time to address all the issues and try to provide a smoother booking process for the next round."

He had announced via Threads that reservation slots for Rembayung would open at 9pm on Sunday, 4 January, with further details shared in a TikTok Live session

Khairul first revealed plans to open Rembayung last month, describing it as a year-long project with a total investment of RM4 million.

The restaurant is built on an 8,000 sq ft plot in Kampung Baru, located about nine minutes from KLCC and the PETRONAS Twin Towers. It focuses on traditional kampung-style cuisine and can accommodate over 250 customers at a time.

He added that Rembayung features a two-storey semi-glasshouse concept, designed to evoke the atmosphere of a kampung setting in the middle of the city.

Khairul also said the opening of Rembayung created job opportunities for 50 local workers.
