Tall and leafy, with long green pods hanging from its branches, moringa (Moringa oleifera) trees are also known as drumstick trees.

Known as murungakkai in Tamil and pokok kelor in Malay, the drumstick tree is a familiar sight in many Malaysian homes, especially among the Indian community.

And here's a fun twist, those drumstick-shaped pods are actually a fruit, even though we usually cook and eat them like a vegetable.

The drumstick tree is said to be a nutritional powerhouse, as reported by the New Straits Times

The beauty of moringa is that the whole tree is useful

Both the pods and the leaves are nutrient-rich. Some households even grind the leaves into a powder to sprinkle over rice or soups. You can also use the powder to make a drink. If you're not sure how to grind it yourself, pre-ground moringa powder is widely available online. Either way, you can experiment with this superfood your way.
