If you have been born after the '90s, chances are you have no idea what the Martial Law Era was all about

Martial law is the imposition of the highest-ranking military officer as the military governor and is usually imposed temporarily when the government or civilian authorities fail to function effectively (e.g. maintain order and security, or provide essential services). Typically, the imposition of martial law accompanies curfews, the suspension of civil law, civil rights, habeas corpus, and the application or extension of military law or military justice to civilians, according to [Wikipedia] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_law).

**Here's the real reason of Marcos's declaration of Martial Law:**

On September 21, 1972, President Ferdinand E. Marcos placed the Philippines under Martial Law. The declaration issued under Proclamation 1081 suspended the civil rights and imposed military authority in the country, according to [Philippine History] (http://www.philippine-history.org/martial-law-philippines.htm).

The last time late Ferdinand Marcos uttered the words 'Martial Law', these happened.

**The People Power Revolution happened on 22 February 1986 and it lasted for three days.**

However, up to this day, the true story of Martial Law is not taught in schools. But these young voters somehow have their own ideas about it…

Six days before the elections started, the [Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacanang] (https://www.facebook.com/CARMMAPH/timeline) (CARMMA) posted a petition on Change.org last 3 May to rewrite the history books and include the full story of the Martial Law Era

[CARMMA] (https://www.facebook.com/CARMMAPH/info?tab=page_info) is a campaign network encompassing martial law victims, civil libertarians, peace, and freedom advocates and militant groups which have their roots in the anti-Marcos dictatorship movement of the late 70s and early 80s that resulted in the historic 1986 EDSA People Power Uprising that toppled the dictator and led to the exile of the entire Marcos family.

Along with their petition, CARMMA also posted a video on Facebook showing some young voters talking to the victims of Martial Law
