Mysterious billboard screenings recently popped up in Bukit Bintang and they've got emo fans spiralling (in a good way)

Cryptic black-and-white messages appeared in the heart of Bukit Bintang yesterday, 22 June, with a simple but emotionally loaded message: "Malaysia. Are you okay?"

To top it off, a group of buskers showed up beneath one of the signs playing several emo anthems that drew curious crowds and plenty of phones in the air.

Eyeliner? Check. Teens in black? Check. People mouthing lyrics they haven't screamed since Form 3? Double-check.

Let's just say… the vibes were extremely 2006.

Now fans are convinced this is a sign. Specifically, a My Chemical Romance-sized one.

The reactions online have been swift — and loud.

It didn't take long before mentions of the iconic band started making the rounds, with fans drawing the line between this suspiciously on-brand activation and the band in question: My Chemical Romance.

Warner Music Malaysia dropped a not-so-subtle hint a couple of days ago with an Instagram Story featuring one of MCR's songs.

Even local band Pop Shuvit chimed in, sharing a throwback to when they toured with the band themselves.

ICYMI, MCR recently announced a 10-city stadium tour for 2025, where they'll be performing The Black Parade album in full — yes, the same one that raised a generation of sad kids who still flinch when they hear a piano intro

The tour kicks off in July 2025 in the US with acts like Garbage, Death Cab for Cutie, and Alice Cooper tagging along. Malaysia wasn't on that list… yet. But this Bukit Bintang stunt? Feels a lot like a prelude.

Especially since Green Day pulled a similar move with teaser billboards last year — right before announcing their KL show.
