Premium electric vehicle (EV) brand Zeekr is set to begin assembling its vehicles locally in Tanjung Malim, Perak

The move is part of a major development within the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) and was announced at the launch of Proton's new EV plant, according to SoyaCincau.

This is made possible through the partnership between Proton and its shareholder, Geely, which is also Zeekr's parent company.

Zeekr has already introduced several models to the Malaysian market, including the Zeekr X electric SUV and the Zeekr 009 electric MPV, with the Zeekr 7X SUV launching just last month

The company also established a National Sales Company for Malaysia in June, signalling its commitment to the local market.

Details on the timeline and specific models for the completely knocked down (CKD) operation remain scarce.

It is also unconfirmed whether the assembly will take place at Proton's new facility or a separate Zeekr plant

The AHTV is poised to become a significant hub for EV production, with BYD also announcing plans for a CKD factory in the area.

Additionally, the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park is expected to be operational in the nearby Lembah Beringin next year.
