Elon Musk's platform X announced measures yesterday, 14 January, to stop its AI chatbot, Grok, from digitally 'undressing' real people
This decision follows a massive global outcry over the tool's ability to generate sexualised images of women and children.
The platform confirmed it will "geoblock" Grok's ability to generate images of people in "bikinis, underwear, and similar attire" in regions where such content is illegal.

X's safety team stated they have implemented "technological measures" to prevent real people from being edited into revealing clothing, a rule that applies even to paid subscribers
This move comes as California Attorney General Rob Bonta launched an investigation on 14 January 2026 into xAI, the developer behind Grok.
Bonta described reports of the AI producing non-consensual, sexually explicit material as "shocking" and stated that California has "zero tolerance" for child sexual abuse material.

The pressure on Musk's company has escalated quickly, with Malaysia and Indonesia becoming the first countries to block Grok entirely
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) restricted access on 11 January 2026, citing the "repeated misuse" of the tool to generate "obscene" and "grossly offensive" images of women and minors.
MCMC noted that X's response to their concerns — which relied on user-reporting mechanisms — was "insufficient" to address the inherent risks of the AI's design.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the government is now considering taking X to court over its chatbot's failure to prevent the generation of harmful deepfakes.
Despite the findings, Musk posted on X yesterday that he was "not aware of any naked underage images generated by Grok. Literally zero."
