WhatsApp is introducing new safety features to combat the rise of scams
Its focus is on scammers who target users with promises of quick money and other fraudulent schemes.

The platform is launching a new 'safety overview' feature that appears when a user who isn't in your contacts adds you to a group
This pop-up will provide key information and safety tips, allowing you to exit the group without ever viewing the chat.
Notifications from such groups will also be automatically silenced until you confirm you want to stay, giving you more control over random invites.

Beyond user-facing tools, WhatsApp is actively fighting criminal scam centres, many of which are operated by organised crime groups in Southeast Asia
As part of its ongoing efforts, the company, along with Meta's security teams, detected and banned over 6.8 million accounts linked to these scam centres in the first half of this year alone.
WhatsApp also reminds users to utilise existing safety tools like two-step verification, the block and report function, and the 'Silence Unknown Callers' feature to further protect their accounts.
