Dashcam footage captured a peculiar sight on the streets of Singapore recently, when a BMW appeared to vanish into thin air after emitting a massive plume of white smoke

The unusual incident, which took place in the Balestier area, Singapore, has since gone viral, with netizens jokingly labelling the vehicle a "ghost car" due to its sudden and dramatic disappearance from the camera's view.

The encounter allegedly occurred on Saturday, 7 March, at approximately 10pm.

In the video, a vehicle equipped with a dashboard camera is seen following a BMW as both cars navigate a left turn from Balestier Road to merge onto the Central Expressway (CTE)

The drive appeared routine until the BMW suddenly spewed a dense, opaque cloud of white smoke for unknown reasons.

The volume of smoke was so significant that it completely obscured the vision of the driver behind.

Forced to prioritise safety, the driver slowed down to navigate through the artificial fog.

By the time the witness emerged from the thickest part of the cloud, only lingering wisps of smoke remained on the tarmac; the BMW, however, was nowhere to be found

While social media users have had a field day comparing the scene to a Hollywood spy movie or a supernatural event, automotive experts suggest a more grounded explanation.

The sudden emission of thick white smoke from an exhaust often indicates a mechanical failure, such as a blown head gasket or a cracked engine block allowing coolant to enter the combustion chamber.
