Tesla has officially introduced the new Model Y L to the Malaysian market, marking its public debut with a showcase at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur today, 1 April

This latest variant, which features a six-seater configuration, is designed to cater to larger families and those seeking enhanced cabin versatility. While final figures are still subject to confirmation, Tesla has announced an indicative starting price of RM260,000 for the Model Y L — with local deliveries expected to commence within the second quarter (Q2) of 2026.

Although it shares a strong visual resemblance with the standard five-seater Model Y, the Model Y L features distinct structural modifications to accommodate its expanded seating capacity

To facilitate the inclusion of a third row, engineers extended the vehicle's wheelbase by 150mm and raised the roofline by 44mm; this adjustment means that occupants in the rear experience adequate headroom and legroom.

The variant also introduces aesthetic and functional upgrades, including a redesigned rear spoiler for superior aerodynamics and an exclusive Cosmic Silver paint option that distinguishes it from its smaller siblings.

The interior is the primary focus of this new model, featuring a 2+2+2 seating layout that provides individual chairs for the second row. These premium seats are equipped with power-retractable armrests, heating, and ventilation, alongside power-recline and folding functions for maximum convenience.

For those seated in the third row, comfort is maintained through dedicated air vents located in the B- and C-pillars. The cabin also introduces a new Zen Grey interior theme — replacing the previous Black and White option — while the All Black scheme remains the standard choice for most buyers.

The extra spacious interior exudes a sense of style and luxury

Technological amenities within the Model Y L are extensive, led by a 16-inch central infotainment touchscreen that serves as the hub for vehicle settings and media. Second-row passengers are provided with their own eight-inch touchscreen to manage climate controls and entertainment independently.

To support modern mobile requirements, the revised wireless charging pad now features active ventilation, allowing for fast charging at 50W for the driver and 30W for the front passenger. The audio experience is handled by a sophisticated 19-speaker sound system, ensuring high-fidelity playback throughout the expanded cabin.

Despite its larger size, the Model Y L still delivers strong performance

On the performance front, the Model Y L utilises a dual-motor powertrain that enables a 0-100km/h sprint in just five seconds and a top speed of 201km/h.

Efficiency remains a priority, with Tesla quoting a total range of 681km under the WLTP cycle. For long-distance travel, the vehicle's compatibility with the Supercharger network allows it to regain up to 288km of range in approximately 15 minutes.

The standard Basic Autopilot suite manages safety, though customers can opt for Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (FSD) upgrades to access more advanced driver-assistance features.

Interested customers can expect the Malaysian online configurator to go live shortly, allowing for final specifications to be selected and orders to be placed

This launch follows the model's initial debut in China in August 2025 and its subsequent rollout in regional markets such as Australia.
