The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has officially rolled out its Smart Sensor Awareness (SENSA) system — an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered traffic light designed to keep pedestrians safe

By tapping into AI, the system acts as a high-tech guardian for vulnerable groups in high-risk zones.

"The system is capable of automatically detecting pedestrians and activating real-time audio and visual warnings for drivers and pedestrians," the MBSJ said on Facebook.

The SENSA setup is a triple threat of hardware: A smart camera, loudspeaker, and blue LED light bar

These elements work together to give road users a clear heads-up and ensure everyone stays alert.

The system also includes 24-hour monitoring to help keep crime at bay.

MBSJ has already flicked the switch on the first unit at a pedestrian crossing in front of SMK Puchong Permai.

"SENSA integrates a smart camera with AI analytics, loudspeaker, and blue LED light bar as an effective visual signal to increase awareness," it added.

MBSJ plans to expand the rollout in stages across other strategic spots within its jurisdiction

The system runs on solar energy, fitting the council's push to become a low-carbon city.

"Its implementation using solar energy is in line with the aspirations of the smart city concept," MBSJ said.
