Roblox will be working closely with the Malaysian government to ensure that the online game platform is safe for children

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said the platform will be enhancing safety of its Malaysian users through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and human monitoring.

The platform will share data with the government and comply with the country's regulations.

Yeoh stressed that online safety is paramount for the younger generation especially on online game platforms like Roblox

"We want a digital world that is not only fun, but also builds the right character and values for the next generation," she said in a Facebook post on 3 November.

The image included the minister with representatives from Roblox.

"Roblox has over 100 million users worldwide, including more than one million in Malaysia. With such a reach, the responsibility to protect young users cannot be taken lightly.

"As the youth and sports minister, and also a mother, I am concerned when I see how some online games can affect children's behaviour and emotions," she added.

Previously, it was reported that the Malaysian government mulled to ban the online game platform after a 9-year-old boy from Johor allegedly slashed his 6-year-old brother's neck

The boy allegedly committed the act after obsessively playing Roblox on 27 October.

The incident led Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil to ban his children from playing the online video game.

Meanwhile Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the government will closely observe Australia's approach before making any decision against the platform.
