Proton has unveiled Malaysia's most affordable electric vehicle (EV), the first model to be priced under RM100,000
The e.MAS 5, offering a driving range of up to 225km and 325km depending on the variant, starts at RM59,800.
With a RM3,000 rebate, the Prime model is priced at RM56,800, while the Premium model starts from RM69,800. The rebate is valid until 31 December.
According to the New Straits Times, over 5,000 bookings have been made since registrations opened on 4 October.
PRO-NET (Proton's EV division) CEO Zhang Qiang said the launch of the e.MAS 5 underscores Proton's ongoing commitment to accelerating EV adoption in Malaysia.
"We want to make green technology accessible to all Malaysians.
"The Proton e.MAS 5 combines advanced innovation, proven safety and genuine affordability," he said during the launch yesterday, 30 October.

Battery capacity: 30.12kWh (Prime), 40.16kWh (Premium)
Charging speed: 53kW (DC, Prime), 71kW (DC, Premium)
Fast charging support: 30% to 80% in just 21 minutes
Storage: 32 compartments, 70-litre front trunk, 375-litre rear boot (expandable to 1,320 litres)
