Proton Holdings Bhd (PROTON) has shifted into high gear for the new year, recording its highest January sales volume in 15 years

According to The Edge Malaysia, the national carmaker delivered 12,833 units last month, nearly doubling the 6,918 units sold in January 2025.

Leading the pack is the iconic Proton Saga, which achieved its highest-ever monthly sales volume with 10,285 units.

Since its refreshed launch on 27 November 2025, the company has delivered over 19,000 units — a rate of roughly one car every five minutes.

With nearly 100,000 bookings already in the bag, the Saga is expected to remain PROTON's primary driver.

PROTON is now eyeing a total sales target of 200,000 units for 2026, aiming to capture an estimated 30.6% of the market share

Its deputy chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa said that the brand's focus on refreshing its line-up with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) offerings is yielding results.

Abdul Rashid noted that the group plans to expand local production to maintain attractive pricing for customers

"PROTON has had an excellent start to 2026. Our efforts to refresh the line-up with new ICE and EV offerings, while communicating about the technologies in every model, are starting to pay dividends," Abdul Rashid added.

While the total industry volume in Malaysia rose 28.3% year-on-year, the overall market saw a slight dip from the record-breaking levels of December 2025. Despite this, other models like the X50 and S70 recorded significant growth of 69.3% and 40.3%, respectively.
