Pos Malaysia has just unveiled its very first driverless delivery van!
The vehicle, known as the Zelos Z10, is fully autonomous, 100% electric, and produces zero emissions.
According to Pos Malaysia, the autonomous vehicle is currently undergoing a six-month testing phase at its National Mail Centre before it can be deployed on public roads.
At its launch yesterday, 21 January, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the van is expected to improve productivity and operational efficiency at Pos Malaysia, particularly for internal logistics operations.
He said the van will initially operate on intermediate routes, such as deliveries between the mail centre and major post offices, rather than making direct doorstep deliveries.
Fahmi said the initiative represents a milestone in modernising the operations of the national postal service, in line with technological advancements
"This project is the first of its kind in Malaysia's postal sector, opening opportunities for the country to explore the wider use of autonomous vehicles.
"We recognise that the mail delivery sector is facing significant challenges as a legacy service, but the shift towards a more sustainable business model must be supported to ensure the continuity of services," he said at the launch yesterday.
Pos Malaysia added that it is working closely with regulators and partners to explore the vehicle's future deployment
"More than just new technology, the Z10 reflects our commitment to building a smarter, greener, and more efficient logistics ecosystem as Pos Malaysia continues to evolve to better connect Malaysians nationwide," the company said in a Facebook post.
