Your conversations with Meta's AI will soon change what you see on Facebook and Instagram

Starting 16 December 2025, Meta will begin using your interactions with its generative AI features to personalise the content and ads you see across its platforms.

This means what you ask Meta AI could soon influence the reels, posts, and ads that appear in your feed.

Meta explained that this update will help make its recommendations more relevant

For instance, if you chat with Meta AI about hiking, the platform may infer your interest and start showing you content about hiking trails, posts from friends, or even ads for hiking boots.

Meta, on its website, assured users that they can still manage their experience using existing tools like 'Ads Preferences' and other feed controls.

Meta also clarified that it does not use conversations about sensitive topics like health, religion, or political views for ad targeting

This personalisation relies on accounts being linked in the same Accounts Center.

If your WhatsApp account is not added, your Meta AI chats on that platform will not be used to tailor your experience on Facebook or Instagram.

Users will receive notifications about the new policy via in-app alerts and emails from 7 October 2025 onwards, several weeks before the changes take effect.
