Malaysia's digital and tech initiatives are getting global recognition this year, with 10 locally led projects shortlisted for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2026

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is calling on Malaysians to vote for 10 locally led projects nominated at the WSIS Prizes 2026, an international awards platform organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This year's theme focuses on using information and communication technologies (ICTs) to support sustainable development and build a more inclusive digital future

Furthermore, Malaysia is also continuing its role as a Platinum Strategic Partner for the event, which positions the country among key contributors to global digital policy and innovation discussions.

The top 10 Malaysian submissions cover everything from AI farming to online safety

The shortlisted projects supported by MCMC span multiple sectors, including agriculture, digital governance, online safety, sustainability, and community empowerment.

Several of the projects focus on practical, everyday issues affecting Malaysians. These include helping farmers detect crop diseases using AI, improving disaster recovery communications, encouraging safer internet usage, and promoting responsible e-waste disposal.

The WSIS Prizes recognise ICT-based initiatives that contribute towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with projects from around the world competing across different categories.

Public voting is part of the judging process, meaning Malaysians can directly support the country's nominated projects through the official WSIS Prizes platform.

Voting is now open until 13 May via the official WSIS website.
