LEGO's life-like Game Boy set went on sale just this week, but a talented modder has already modified it to play actual game cartridges
The modder, known as Natalie the Nerd, showcased the incredible project on her blog, revealing a modified LEGO set that functions as a real handheld console.
The project involved designing and building a completely custom Game Boy circuit board, engineered to fit inside the LEGO model's tight internal space.

Natalie explained that her work on the project began even before the set arrived, using LEGO's own pre-launch photos to get a head start on the design
"I incorporated the power circuit I use for my Safer Charger boards, changed the power switch to a soft latching power button, added pin outs for the button matrix and audio," she wrote.
The clever modification uses the LEGO model's own cartridge slot and pressable buttons, which are wired to custom 3D-printed parts to make them functional.

While the build is already working, Natalie says she plans to refine the project further before ultimately releasing her plans for others to try for themselves
The official LEGO Game Boy set is a 421-piece model that faithfully reproduces Nintendo's classic handheld and is priced at USD59.99 (about RM282).
It also comes with its own brick-built game cartridges for classics like Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
