BYD has unveiled its second-generation Blade Battery that can charge electric vehicles (EVs) from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes
The Chinese automaker revealed on Weibo that the Blade Battery 2.0 can deliver over 1,036km of range in the Denza Z9GT.
Even in brutal -30°C conditions, the battery charged from 20% to 97% in only 12 minutes.

BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu explained that the battery contains a deliberate energy-saving measure
"Stopping the charge at 97% is a deliberate energy-saving measure," Wang said, adding that the remaining 3% was reserved for regenerative braking.
To support these charging speeds, BYD is rolling out 20,000 of its Flash Charging 2.0 system with a massive 1.5MW output across China by the end of 2026
For now, the rollout is heavily focused on China, though BYD has confirmed plans for a global expansion.
The technology utilises a "station-within-a-station" model, where on-site energy storage batteries top up during off-peak hours to avoid crashing the local power grid.

BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 battery will debut in the ultra-luxury Yangwang U7
Other models set to receive the upgrade include the Seal 07, Sealion 06 and the Denza Z9GT models.
